In April there are thousands of different varieties of Wildflowers in bloom in North East Texas. This begins many events in the Hughes Springs area, from 5K runs to Cow Patty Bingo to the Miss Wildflower Trails Pageant. There is something for everyone. Known to be one of the most beautiful periods of the season, the last full weekend of April ends with a carnival and street dance downtown.
Hometown 4th of July and BBQ Cook Off
Hughes Springs celebrates our nations independence each year on the weekend prior to the 4th of July. The annual event is a special time for all. A sanctioned BBQ cook off and lots of hometown fun make for a great weekend. A No-Motor Parade, pony rides, watermelon seed spitting contest and a bubble gum blowing contest are just a few of the fun activities enjoyed by those who attend.
Treasure Trails occur twice a year, in May and again in September. Downtown merchants offer fantastic sales and local residents gather for a city wide garage sale. It includes used merchandise, collectibles & junktiques. You never know what you will find?
Scarecrow Row / Pumpkin Glow
Fall brings out the ghost and gobblins and the much welcomed cooler weather. The last Saturday in October is enjoyed out doors in the Hughes Springs downtown area with the Annual Pumpkin Glow and ATV Parade. Many ATV's and Side by Sides are decorated and paraded downtown for all to watch. The festivities continue with craft booths, bouncy houses and Trunk-or-Treating. Many local civic organizations and churches decorate their vehicles and give our little ones a safe place to trick-or-treat. The festival's events end with the Annual Pumpkin Glow with hundreds of pumpkins displayed and awarded for their remarkable carvings.
